I’ve walked in the consultant’s shoes in the past, but for more than a decade I was the client. The eager marketing specialist, the determined marketing manager, the enthusiast online manager, the business developer, and the managing director of a travel start-up. Not all at once. ? Although, at some point in my life I wanted to write on my business cards: Violeta Ratiu, Jack of all trades.

I get you. The pressure for results is there. And it’s constant. Like a leaking faucet. The more you try to ignore it, the more you’ll only hear the drips. Drip, drip, drip…

And when you think you’ve got it all figured out, something unexpected happens. The road isn’t straight anymore, it suddenly shifts. And you adjust as quickly as you can. Or perhaps you take a deep breath and explore the idea of building a different path. It’s overwhelming and at times you find yourself lost.

I was lost too. Made my share of mistakes. Learned my lessons. There is no one size fits all approach. There are guidelines, principles to follow. No silver bullet. Because your marketing strategy is connected to your market, your customers and product/ service. And it will take patience and persistence. Small wins that add up over time to create a big change.

Easier said than done. When you’re in it day in, day out, you can lose your objectivity and get tangled up in way too many details. You lose sight of the bigger picture. That’s why a precious insight at the right moment can make all the difference. For me it worked.

And that’s when I enter the stage.
